Aspen is legendary for many things, one of the ones it is most proud of is the amazing ability that both locals have to ski all day, party into the night and get up and do it all over again. Maybe it is the fresh mountain air, or maybe there is just to much to do and no one wants to miss out.
There is so much to choose from in terms of nightlife in aspen and really, when does that start, many would say as soon as you click out of your skies or get down from your hike up Aspen Mountain. Aspen is home to what Playboy Magazine calls one of the ten best bars in the U.S and what can turn into one of the wildest Apres Ski afternoons you have ever had. Complete with pool, hut tub, dj and more The Sky Bar is the place to be for Apres in Aspen. Looking for something a little mellower, try Ajax Tavern right at the base of the mountain in Gondola square. Their truffle fries are legendary and you get to watch out for the who’s who as they come of their day of skiing. Another local favorite is Mezzalune, about a block from the Gondola and featuring great deals on pizza and drinks that will fuel you up to charge right into the night, be careful more than one person has ended up dancing in their ski boots at midnight after heading to Mezz!
Heading out for a nice dinner in town and want to get a drink before, the J-Bar at the Hotel Jerome is highly recommended, this place has a comfortable mountain town feel and is legendary on many levels where patrons including ski bums, socialites, cowboys and luminaries, members of the Tenth Mountain Division to the late Hunter S.T hompson have gathered at this authentic bar for an hint of the Old West.
If you happen to dine at Campo for the evening, you will not have far to go, the bar here has been known to turn it up at night and be ready for a host of local ladies to be dancing on the bar by midnight. Or head upstairs for a cocktail at Jimmys with his impressive tequila selection, and if it happens to be Saturday night and you know how to dance, at 11:00 the tables get cleared out and a DJ playing salsa music livens things up.
A favorite for locals and tourists alike is the Eric’s complex, host to Eric hip bar, complete with separate pool room Aspen Billiards, The Cigar Bar where you can enjoy a leisurely smoke in comfy leather couches, and Su Casa great Mexican food and a really fun bar.
Late night things really get wild at a few of the dance clubs in town, The Regal is hip place complete with bottle service and nighlty DJ, and newcomer Escobar has been known to turn up the heat all night long.
If you are in the mood to feel privileged Aspen is home to a couple of private clubs, the longstanding pillar or the community the Caribou Club is the place to enjoy a late night drink with the who’s who, and the new Casa Tua has a fun bar with great views of the snowcats getting the runs ready for you tomorrow on Aspen.
Looking to take it down a notch and just enjoy a casual drink , head to the bar at Little Annies and rub elbows with true locals, careful they may even be a little salty. Or head to Finbarr’s for Aspens version of an Irish pub. Something a little romantic and comfy on your mind the new Library bar in the Hotel Jerome is just the place.
